A Broad Range of Projects
DataBright has worked for many companies, large and small, and in a wide-variety of industries over the past 22 years. In some installations, our custom-built software runs all business operations in a seamlessly integrated solution. In others, it is dedicated to the needs of a particular workgroup or a specific mission-critical function. Out of concern for the security and maintenance of each company's intellectual property, we are limited in what we can show you.
At the same time, however, we want you to see what we can do, and our pride in what we have accomplished. We have grouped what follows by specific features. You may or may not see a feature that your system requires, but you will certainly get an idea of the width and breadth of our capabilities.
The company names have been removed from all examples and any and all data you might see is entirely fictitious.
UC San Diego and the N.I.H. Medical Research Management and Medical Billing
Created the "UCSD Cystinosis Databank," a joint project of the University of California at San Diego and the National Institutes of Health, to support the research of treatments for Cystinosis, an orphan disease. The database keeps track of everyone diagnosed with this disease, every doctor appointment they have and all lab test results.
Kaiser Permanente
Created a database publishing application that automatically generates a 1,500-item medical supplies catalog, complete with images of the items. Savings of 180K per year over previous method.
Beeline Group, Inc.
One of the largest graphic design firms in the world, Beeline designs and produces advertising and merchandising for such companies as Sony, Nike, Hewlett-Packard, Coca-Cola, Adobe and Gallo Vineyards.
DataBright implemented two separate projects for Beeline, the first is an integrated client-server database that manages every part of their daily operations, from estimating to job creation and work orders, automated purchasing, employee time management, vendor invoices and EDI. This has been a long term support project spanning more than 2 decades. We have watched them grow from 6 employees to over 300, and grown the software to accommodate their expanding needs. We'd like to think our software had something to do with their success.
The second system is a Graphics Review web site. Beeline needed to present merchandising designs to their clients and invite their comments and suggestions. When new designs are uploaded the client team is invited and design documents with revisions and notes are available to the invitees. It is a complex web of permissions, document management, including versioning, and review management for a large company serving such clients as Nike, Sony and Hewlett Packard among many others. Beeline's parent company, Legget and Platt, liked it so much they had us expand its scope to allow access by numerous other divisions with all of their concomitant clients.
Collagen Corporation QA Management
Built a Quality Control application to manage test results on their products. An Environmental Control application manages information on the cleanliness of every doorknob, every table surface and every air duct in the facility.

Humboldt Instrument Company Machine Shop Management
This breakthrough database manages a large scale, high tech machine shop. The application does estimating, job management, invoicing, billing and much more. Among its outstanding features is the ability to tell the user how long it will take to cut a 4 inch groove, 1/2 inch deep thru a piece of Aluminum 6061 with a 3-inch carbide bit going 2500 RPM.
Barson Composites Hitemco Manufacturing
Created a web interface to an existing Helix database. It includes two "portals," one for Clients and another for Vendors. Barson has four separate companies under its umbrella, each with a copy of the original database. This system automatically senses which Barson company users are a client of and routes them to the correct database.
Fertility Center of Las Vegas Medical Lab Control
Working closely with Antek Healthware, DataBright designed and implemented an HL-7 compliant module for an existing Helix-based medical practice management system to allow for the automated ordering and reporting of results from laboratory analysis systems.
Diagnostic Instruments Medical Products
In addition to general networking support, database upgrading and integrating their system with their web site, we completed a SOAP application that allows a 3rd party software application to build a product registration matrix for their high end medical products and software.
GreenSheets Media
An environmental "Newspaper" on the web. Writers from all over the world submitted articles based on environmental issues being addressed in Congress, and once edited (within the database) and approved they became part of the next issue. Different subscription types allowed for online viewing and also e-mail delivery. News items that came in in the middle of the day would trigger express e-mails would be sent out to subscribers. Notable subscribers included Ted Kennedy's office, among many other senators, and many environmental groups, such as the National Wildlife Federation, and the White House.
Seachem Pet Industry Suppliers
Created a stand alone installation for laptops to allow offline entry of client data. If the laptop has an internet connection, the data goes directly to Seachem, otherwise, it is stored locally and synchronized when internet connection is re-established. Extended the application to be able to access the home office with an iPhone.
Sutherland's Bike Shop Aids, Inc. Bicycle Industry
DataBright produced two systems for this mail order company. Howard Sutherland wrote the bible on how to maintain and repair bicycles, now in its 7th edition. In addition to the sales of his book, his mail order company supplies the forms that bicycle shops use to manage their inventory and their repair workflow. Our software manages his entire operation, from taking orders to the "Orders to Print" for the printer and the "Orders to Ship" for the shipper. It has a Sales Order Entry form that calculates the number of cartons and the weight for every order and the resulting shipping cost of every option for every major supplier. As the order is processed, it automatically sends out fax or email acknowledgments and handles credit card processing on the fly.
The second system produced, Bike Tracker, is a bicycle inventory package for Bicycle shops. It tracked every bike produced from every manufacturer and may be released to the general market at a future date.
Additional Bicycle Industry...
To make a "perfect fit" for their customers, a local bicycle shop wanted show bikes online, but not sell them, and drive customers to their location. We designed a features to build local notice of the store and brand loyalty. Among other features, we created a database of local bicycle trips that locals could enjoy. It included categorizing the trips by level of difficulty and distance, an elaborate "turn-by-turn" chart and maps of the route. After a few trips they might want some new tires or even a new bike; and they knew right where to go.
McGinnis Chen Architectural Engineering
A project management and time billing application for an architectural engineering firm. The company utilizes multiple employee rates, multiple phases for each project and multiple activities for each phase. They started with a Helix-based client-server solution, and as their needs grew we migrated them to a PHP/MySQL solution. They have sophisticated status pages that present them with a snapshot of the business, one that does 1200 calculations on the fly in less than a second.
More Architectural Engineering...
Created a web interface to an existing database solution for time and expense entry. Time and expense records are downloaded into the client's accounting program. We initially produced dashboard widgets and when the iPhone came out, a web interface to allow time and expense entry to be entered anytime, from anywhere.
Yet More Architectural Engineering...
Created a muti-window, desktop application for browser access to their client, project and time management application. It has pull-down menus, modal dialogs and a lot of other items we are more used to finding in a desktop application.
FashionBar Fashion Trade Show Application
A fashion trade show is a chaotic environment. Order placement needs to be quick and efficient to succeed. A small, keychain-sized bar code device reads a "line sheet", or tags on a piece of clothing and saves the data, including the quantity desired. When plugged into a computer, it automatically uploads the data and within a second or two an order entry screen is presented with everything that was ordered. It allows for on-the-spot modification and when one presses the approve button it wraps up the order and sends it off to both the home office and the buyer's location.
Panamax Power Smoothing Products
Created a trouble ticket manager written in ASP (Microsoft). Provides an interface for a user to submit a trouble ticket and management by customer service and technical support personnel to resolve the issue.
Donnelly Brothers Mail Order
A customer database solution was extended to allow customers to enter and pay for orders over the web. This company has a main sales office in one state and a production and shipping warehouse in another. Internally, shipping was streamlined by allowing the sales office to setup all of the shipping (requesting pickup, creating UPS shipping labels, etc). When the order is ready for shipment, the shipping labels are transferred and printed at the production and shipping office. As the order is shipped, the sales office is automatically notified.
InfoCheck Background Check Industry
Years ago we assisted this company in updating their in-house produced system. Recently, we brought the database and web interface into Helix, Heliport and PHP.
PetersenDean Roofing Industry
This company had an idea of what they wanted the basic layout of their site to look like. The details were evolving and they wanted to be up and running yet able to update their pages on their own time.
The solution was a custom content management system. The system allowed their designer to create page content through an interface where they could define navigation, resources, forms and other website elements. They could place these elements on the page and produce the look they wanted.
Seven Circles Foundation Non-Profit
This non-profit needed a web-accessible, central database to allow for the splitting up of database updating tasks among its authorized members. It also maintains a schedule of all of their events and sends out notices to the membership of upcoming events based upon their interest.
Wine Industry
This Order Entry solution allowed salespeople to track and ship inventory from warehouses in multiple locations. In addition, the inventory system had an allocation capacity that set aside custom-ordered products ordered by specific salespeople on behalf of their customers.
